Krishna Bharat

Krishna Bharat is a Distinguished Research Scientist at Google Inc, Mountain View. He works in the area of interactive systems for information access and content creation based on content analysis and predictive intelligence. Krishna graduated with a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Georgia Tech in 1996. Before joining Google in 1999, he was a member of the research staff at DEC Systems Research Center in Palo Alto, CA.

Krishna is the creator of Google News which won the 2003 Webby Award in the news category. Google News aggregates real time news content from news sources around the world, generating 72 editions in 55 languages, and powering Google's news search. In total these services deliver over 10B clicks to publishers monthly. In 2004, he started Google's engineering center in Bangalore and served as the center's first head.

Krishna has served on the program committees of UIST and the World Wide Web Conference and has been a reviewer for the WWW Conference, UIST, SIGCHI, SIGIR and TOCHI. He has taught tutorials on Web-IR at SIGCHI and SIGIR. In 2003, Krishna received the World Technology Award for Media & Journalism.
